Welcome to Ueno!

Street Shopping

Ueno is one of the oldest sections of Tokyo. It has a huge outdoor shopping area, museums, temples, theaters and Ueno Park.

Ueno is one of the most popular destinations for Japanese families to go for a day of leisure.

Ueno
Narrow street Ameya Yokocho,  Ameyoko for short, consists of narrow streets lined with outdoor flea market style shopping.

Originally, after World War II, it was a wholesale market for candy, snacks, and black market U.S. Army goods.

Taken from Ueno Park, a look down a main street.

A special treat we had in Ameyoko was sampling  fresh fruit from the vendor stands. In particular, was very sweet, chilled, pineapple wedges served on long sticks.

Hmmmmm, it was good!

Entrance to street shops
Fish Stand Ameyoko is filled with hundreds of stalls and shops selling everything from fresh fish to discount electronics.

These ties were only $3.60 each!
